Is your boat ready for fishing season? Here are 10 steps to check off before you hook your boat up to the hitch.

I've been fishing since I was 8 years old and began fishing artificials 25 years ago with Cotton Cordell's Big O crankbait and Bill Norman's Snatrix plastic worm. I've read hundreds of articles that gave reasons that fish attack lures, but my experience tells me that there are abstract qualities in a lure that cause it to be seen, tracked, and struck.

Its been a long cold winter. Cabin fever claimed some of my time, but not all of it. My most productive time was spent modifying bass lures. Think about it--when you can alter a lure and catch more bass on it, what could be more satisfying?

Sight, sound, and feel are three factors to consider when choosing an artificial lure on tough days or on days when the pattern is spotty.

Sight fishing is absolutely one of my favorite ways to fish. It puts you one on one with fish that know you are there. It makes catching them a whole lot more satisfying because the odds are more even.

Now that April is well under way, and the Walleye spawn seems to be winding down, Nebraska anglers will be shifting their attention to early Crappie season. As water temps begin to warm, hordes of these tasty pan fish will begin to move into the shallows, following creek channels, all kinds of cover along shore lines, and possibly featureless flats to find forage. That is what early season Crappie migration is all about, -- feeding not spawning.

For years I never caught a bass on a jig. I gave them a fair shot to produce fish and they failed. I thought they were obsolete. I thought I had a presentation for every situation that worked better than using a jig. But now I know, I was wrong.

Its that time of year. April showers bring about plenty of stained water in our reservoirs, rivers and lakes. For a lot of fisherman, this new influx of debris in the water puts a damper on things. But it doesn't have to be this way. It can work to your advantage if you know what to look for.

Many anglers enjoy making their own lures. It gives them a chance to create something that no one else has used to catch fish. It also allows one to continue the pursuit of fishing knowledge concerning color, size, action, speed of retrieve etc.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you catch more fish from clear water fisheries. These tips will get you "Tuned-in", regardless of the target species.

The wind can be an anglers friend or foe. It all depends solely on the angler's perspective and his/her situation.

Snell length in the walleye world is basically either a feast or famine situation. Some days, the walleyes want the leaders short, others they want it long. Its always hard to tell what they want until you get out on the water. What worked yesterday might not work at all today. Tomorrow is too far away to even think about in terms of a walleyes wants.

Float tube fishing can be rewarding, but it can have many pitfalls for unseasoned anglers. If you are thinking about float tubing than this introduction to float tube fishing is for you.

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission released the "Nebraska Pond Management handbook" to help pond owners teach themselves how to manage a fishing pond successfully.
