People:me
Duration:4 hours
Tide:2 hours before high
Weather: sunny with showers
Bait: refrozen mac sand eel
Rigs:2 hook flapper and a pulley
Results: 2 ton of weed, loads of crabs,a cormorant and 3.1/2 pound sea trout .
Report:Hadn't fished for 3 weeks the 3 evil W's(Work-Weather-Wife) had been conspiring against me .
So i had to get out, my Car is on its last legs so i needed somewhere close to home
Chose raughley as its not to far Fished from the harbor wall put the pulley rig out as far as i could and fished the flapper closer in.
A after a few near misses with boats leaving the harbor brought the pulley in closer and fished the flapper parallel to the beach , and so the crab and weed fest began.
After about 45 Min's the rod with the pulley went mad happy days i thought till i saw a very unhappy cormorant about 50 yards out it started to come in as i retrieved but managed to get off about 10 yards out sat there for a few Min's then flew off,no harm done i hope.
About 20 Min's later i heard a splash looked out into the bay to see a sea trout jump then looked at my rod tip it was bouncing, wound into it a fish at last saw the trout jump again then realized i had hooked it landed a lovely sea trout 3-1/2 pounds .
Not much else after that just crabs and weed got one big bite which pulled the rod out of the rod rest and onto the wall scratching my century (only the 3rd time i have used it ) stayed a bit longer rain was getting heavy so went home

Hi all,
And thanks for the additional posts, the info you have all given has been great.....I think I've just about got my head around what should be right for me
I'm gonna go for the abu 6500 (I've seen a few 2nd hand at around 40/45 delivered) for my beach/pier work.
And if things go my way, I'll pick up a SL30SH, which should cover the odd bit of boat/rough ground/conger fishing I may do.
Does that sound right enough to you guy's?
I'm a complete novice with a multi, so if over the next month or so any of ya see a guy with nothing but a rod and reel casting upand down the beach, dont be too suprised, it'll only be me getting a bit of practise in
Once again lads, thanks ever so much for your comments.
I may be seeking you help for a rod or 2 sometime soon _________________ Got any surplus fishing gear you wish to get rid of, take a look at my "Something very unusual !!!" folder in my personal gallery

well eric fair play to you for keeping your cool. not being funny but there is a certain type of gobshite that thinks they have the god given right to have a go at us anglers for **** all . had a women down past arklow tell me the rock i was spinning off was basically hers and she had lost 5 sheep the previous year all down to anglers trespassing on her land and breaking her fences which may i add are illegal . not to say i was that angry for her to tell me all this bullshite that i had to ignore her or i would have been looking at a holiday in the mountjoy. there is only one way to deal with this type of person and thats give them the biggest **** off they can get. _________________ After a days sea angling nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught, turning all fishermen into liars except me. managed to get out earlier, hadn,t got much bait, so end up fish sizes 4-6 flappers in close on one rod. lost count of how many tom pot, scorpions...ect i pull'd up, but not sure about these to, think first one is tadpole, havn't a clue bout 2'nd 1? was using small bit of mack ,squid, sweetcorn + earthworms that i let sit in fresh mussels for couple of hours, wrasse when mad for them, couldn't get anything else on them, hit within seconds of droping!! tompot + blemies seem to love the corn. will definily be using worms again

i have a couple of abus and love them , but they are a clean ground reel, the penn 525 are the one for all round if u can get a decent one . in saying that have heard that the diawa slosh are a good rough ground reel too the choice is yours. abu diawa, penn they are all good quality. hope this helps. _________________ After a days sea angling nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught, turning all fishermen into liars except me. you should have called the garda and told them you were getting a physical threat on the beach.
or you could have rang Boycie I'm sure he would have sorted it out
he seems disappointed you didn't ring him to go down............

The most up-to-date 'precision' forecast you will EVER get!;
www.theyr.net
There's a 2 week free trial, then its about 50 quid for the year if you wish to continue. (Thats nothing, considering it can give you a highly accurate 7 day forecast... )- try it if you don't believe just how accurate it is!!..........
(THIS is the one used by the Rescue Helicopters & the Coastguard etc...although it seems to be a trade secret for some reason) _________________ ____________________
