The Dutch are adopting a similar protection model to Ireland

Henk Bleker, State Secretary (Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation) intends to work with both sport and commercial fishing on the Bass protection plan Sportvisserij Nederland suggested. This is the commitment he made yesterday in the House of Representatives in reply to the questions asked by Lutz Jacobi (PvdA) during the meeting from the Agriculture and Fisheries Council.

At the meeting, Member of Parliament Jacobi pointed everybody on the plan Sportvisserij Nederland submitted. This plan is related to the Irish regulation model….

Has anyone any good spots to dig some lug around south Dublin?
I was down in Blackrock last week but they were thin on the ground.
Got about 60 in two hours.
I heard they go deeper down with the cold weather. is that the case?
Only been out twice so very new to it. Any good spots or tips would be great.
Shankil maybe i seen guys dig there before.

Cheers,

I would like every angler on this site to go onto this page on the Sports Council of Ireland which lists out all the sports that they fund, and the amounts given in core funding.

http://www.irishsportscouncil.ie/Govern ... nvestment/

Angling, which is splint into 5 different governing bodies, gets 15000eu which equates to 3000 each.
Now I'm not going to go into the specifics of what every other sport gets, but lets just say that Baton twirling gets 13,849eu  , and orienteering gets just under 48,000eu

If you are as sickened by this state of affairs as I am, please click on this link and send them a question asking them to explain the reasoning behind this.....

http://www.irishsportscouncil.ie/contact.aspx

I have below copied the message I wrote as something you could copy and paste or write something like it.

"I was just wondering why the largest actual participation sport in this country, where approx 20 teams are sent to home international and world events each year gets a core funding of 15,000eu which is divided between the 5 different angling bodies in this country ie: 3000eu each when an incredibly niche sport like baton twirling gets almost 14000eu, and a very small participation sport like Orienteering gets just under 48,000eu.
I would appreciate if someone could come back to me and explain this.
Yours in sport
David Jolly"

I would love to see if this appalling state of affairs could be changed.

What do people think...

Btw try not to shout out loud at your computer screen when you see some of the amounts given to things like AMERICAN FOOTBALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all I am considering using braid on my beach multipliers, 1 X 7HT, 1 X Penn 525 Mag and 2 X 6500, has anyone used braid on their reels and if so how did you find it to use. I have the feeling that the braid would be a little bit clingy and stick to itself and as a result restrict the cast, but that is just an idea of mine and I have no reason to think that it is the real situation, hence the question?

Many thanks for any advice or suggestions about the subject, I know that it would be a very big mistake to use braid that was too thin, just asking for birds nests that way.

Regards Wez

thinking of hitting inch tomorrow or tuesday decision decides on situation with lug used to be able to dig lug at back of dunes before inch any of ye kerry people know if possible at mo :P

I'd been talking to well know angler Paul Robinson, and what follows may be of some interest to somebody here. I don't have the time, nor is it quite my area of expertise :)

SEO, SEM, HubSpot, AND FISHING – I want to combine these passions!

Hi All, some will know me from the competition circuit, some will know me as the founder and owner of Shamrock Fishing Tackle.
I’m looking to hook up with any guys who are as passionate about SEM/SEO as they are about Angling. It’s funny because I actually see many similarities between both.
I’m not going to explain what I mean by the terms above, if you have to ask, you’re not the guy.
I’m working on a few plans behind the scenes and I’m hoping to connect with some like-minded individual who might be interested in joining forces.
If you’re just out of college, or have been working in this sector, or just passionate about SEM, and you’re as mad about angling as I am, then we NEED TO TALK NOW J Fire me off a mail to paulrobinson99@gmail.com

Can anybody tell me how to get this Hub off, this hub seems to be rubbing on the brake pads.. It sometimes sticks on so last night I took the wheel off and turned the hub around and it felt as if there is dirt between the pads and hub lining,
It has me worried because I think this could cause the hub to overheat on long trips, this hub is on a “roller coaster 5”

Is this a sealed bearing ?

There is a little round spring clip thingy with 2 holes that I think should be removed first but I don’t want to remove it till I know more about the set up, I was expecting to see a crown type nut here for the removal of the hub, but I suppose that would have made it too easy

I just want to get it off and clean or replace anything that may cause problems on the road,

Cheers

lads i came accross this place on sunday while out looking for new marks..www.clegganfarmcottages.com i know the area and looking around there could be a good chance of pollack, wrasse, ray, mackeral and doggie at your door step... the owner showed me one of the cottages and they are great plus reasonable price at around 20 to 30 euro a head per night.....[/color]

I've booked colin Barnes' boat for next Sat 11/2/12 to fish on the
wrecks and associated marks off the west cork coast

http://www.whalewatchwithcolinbarnes.com/

the main target species would be specimen haddock, pollack, cod, whiting, ling conger coalie etc

the cost to charter the boat to head for the far out wrecks is 550 euro, but
she can comfortably fish 8 or 10 anglers assuming they know what they are doing

the boat departs Reen pier at 08:00am sharp and returns at 20:00pm

Please post below if you are interested in joining the trip

Hey lads,

I heading up to Sligo for the weekend and wouldn't mind heading out on a session for a couple of hours. Weather looks like it may be decent enough so going to try and get 2012 off to a start! Does anybody have information on potential spots that may offer the chance of a fish or two at this time of year? I'm up for spinning for a few pollack from rocks or fishing from a beach.. basically anywhere that I might have a chance of catching something!

Cheers

Cobh SAC will be holding their next Light Line Comp on Sunday week, 19th Feb. If you'd fancy fishing ring Danny Kane on 086-8161946 or Mary Geary on 021-4812167 (email seaangling@esatclear.ie) before Weds next to register.

Here's a report on the last comp in January http://www.corkharbouranglinghub.blogsp ... sults.html

For Sunday week's comp there's an important change. The boats will be leaving Kennedy Pier at 10am now instead of 9am. Lines down will be 10:15am and lines up is now 4pm.

Also, remember only the main line needs to be 15lb bs. There is no restriction on rig body, snood, or shock leader.

Hi all just a quick one lad just wanted to know the best stuff to make a thumb grip with?
Thanks lads
Paul

From IFI Facebook page:

Inland Fisheries Ireland
Convictions and fines for two fishermen who used nets to catch Bass.

Yesterday at Midleton District Court 2 fishermen were found guilty of using nets to catch Bass. IFI Fisheries Officers observed the nets on the evening of 11 July 2011 and in the early hours of the next day apprehended the two men.

In evidence the Fisheries Officers stated that following a report they observed a net fixed out just off the shore at Aghada Power Station which was subsequently hauled into an unlighted punt used by the two fishermen in conjunction with a sea fishing boat which was also unlit. The officers quietly approached the punt in a protection boat and using a powerful hand-held spot light suddenly confronted the fishermen. The pair reacted by heaving a fish box containing approximately 20 Bass over the side of the punt into the water.

The fishermen, who retained a Solicitor to fully contest the offences on their behalf, stated that they were fishing for mullet and had taken the Bass as a by-catch but had not had the opportunity to discard the Bass, which were in the fish box, before the Fishery Officers appeared on the scene.

Judge Olann Kelleher said he was satisfied that both men were guilty. For using a net to catch Bass he fined each man €600 and ordered each man to pay €300 costs. He also made an Order for the Forfeiture of the nets.

Am just after getting my first spinning setup (Mike Ladle surepin MK11 + a Shimano Stradic 4000) and I hope to get out this weekend to give it a bash. Was just wondering what would be knocking around this time of the year and if anyone had any pointers for someone who is brand new to lure fishing. Was thinking of heading to one of the more well known spots for spinning like Whiterock or Ballygannon, would these spots be worth a shout? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Is there really any difference in how good they are as opposed to blow or yellow tail,I never noticed any difference? :?: where I dig I can get both and have fished them side by side

Hello. I have a 17 foot boat and have a fish finder on it. I was thinking of buying a chartplotter now. Does anybody know if I need a chartplotter and if yes which is the best suited for me.

Hi All

I hope some gentlemen could post what they feel would be their favourite/best locations from about Newcastle Co Down to around North Co Dublin. I am not looking for secrect spots or anyhting like that, I am faily new to sea angling and would like to give myself the best chance of catching something other than Macky this year.

I am from Dundalk and usually knock around Clogherhead/Greenore! :)

Thx All

Heya folks trying to get together a few rigs everything has to be 15lb or under.I never gave it to much though shore fishing crimping 40lb rig body,s but this seems like a art in itself!

is there any particular line which one would reccomend 15lb for the rig body,i can forsee a few broken traces if i dont get this right cheers.also with putting on the crimps is there a correct way to do this that would cause as little damage to the line as possible!

cheers
fergal

Anybody know of any locations in or near dungarvan that produce decent rag worm?Any info on suppliers welcome also.
PM's welcome.

Heads up maybe people are aware of this but I only discovered last few days Orkon Fishing Tackle has some great lures at great price the flying c's are great for Bass as are the rapala skitter pops good price and if in cork can cut out postage. I got really nice saltwater fly reel too well worth checking out. Thought I knew all the tackle options obviously not!!!!!

has anybody fished tracht beach out past kinvara if you have please give me any information you have on it .thank you :D

heard some good reports about clougherhead recently and i am fed up allways heading south thought i would give this a shot nxt time out, anyone ever been, and any reccomondations and directions to any decent spot to set up as never been up north much, dont mind if its beach, pier or cliffside as long as its easy access and safe, any advice greatly appriciated,

well, i recently moved from using a fixedspool to a multiplier. im right handed and i useually winded in with my left hand and pumped the rod with my right, i find it difficult to reel in with my right. and i noticed that most multipliers are made with right hand wind. (all the good 1s).

is this something i should get used to r should i change to a left hand wind????
