Hi
As the previous topic are closed now, I allowed myself to start new one, i'll try to send some updates as time allows.
Here is my shrimp pattern, bit more complicated than the previous one: https://picasaweb.google.com/1072528541 ... 8/Krewetka . This one requires a bit more materials and skill, but it is simple enough to be tied even by the begginers.
Here is the link for the photos:
https://picasaweb.google.com/1072528541 ... StepShrimp
I'm not sure if it was tied before, plenty of similar patterns are tied for scandinavian sea trout shore fishing, but here I use some new materials, that I haven't seen before on salt water patterns.

Materials I use:
Thread: Uni 8/0, dark Olive, but any dark green one will be ok
Hook: I used salmon low water #6, but any hook between #4 and 8 will be ok, especially Partridge CS54 Sea Shrimp.
Eyes: Burned mono line, around 0,30mm
Antennas: Natural bucktail, only few hairs, keep it sparse, plus few strands of Krystal Flash, I also add some sillicone legs
Body: SLF-Hare dubbing, but any greenish one should be ok, I try to keep it rather darkish
Hackle: I use Coq de Leone, but any badger or grizzly would do
Back: It is a tricky one. You may use any kind of brown body stretch, I use dried smoked mackerel skin. As weird as it sounds, it is a wonderful material and reparation is very easy - just remove the skin from smoked mackerel, than scrapp the fat layer from the inner side of the skin with kitchen sponge, degrease it with any fairy-cleaning stuff that you may use for dishes, than just dry it, with some weight over it to get it flat, papper-like. Than it is easy tu cut small stripes from it, use some warm water to soft it and use as a back on your fly - any nymph patern, or shrimp as here.
I also use some fine silver wire just to rib the body of my shrimp.

Considering the Bass closed season is just over a week old now chances are most Bass anglers are pike fishing or just simply dreaming about June 16th 2012!

However the closed season is sometimes unfortunately a time when illegal Bass netters have a free reign over the local Bass population in certain areas.

Therefore I'd urge as many of you as possible to please even just pop down to your local mark for 10 minutes in the morning and the same in the evening until June 16th 2012.

If you see anything suspicious then obviously report it to the IFI - you can use the following number: 1890 34 74 24

Yours hopefully,
John D.

Hi Lads,

With decent weather promised this weekend I am planning to do a spot of camping with the girlfriend. We are thinking of heading out towards the Clifden area and I figure this will be the perfect opportunity to get in some fishing.

Just wondering if anybody has got any spots that they think may be suitable? I am looking to take advantage of the excellent fishing that I have been reading about in Clifden so any general marks/tactics and would be much appreciated! All marks will be kept in confidence if people don't want to publicly share them. I'm not looking to empty the sea and will catch and release everything bar the one or two that I might keep for the bbq.. Nothing like a bit of fresh fish!

Also, are there any decent tackle shops out that way where I could buy bait such as sand eel etc. or should I bring my own?

Thanks in advance lads.

hello fokes i was out on a boat yesterday and was fishing for smooth hounds and mackerl, and fokes i dident get one bite and i was out there for 5 hours, i was useing crab raser squeed, im not sure waths going on but its strange not to even get a bite, i was fishing the red light house pool beg,

Hi all,

I'm hoping to go out after hounds and having seen the post on North Dublin hounds the other day I had a few questions that I hoped to have answered:

1. Will I catch them above the low water mark when the tide is on it's way in... Basically do I need to find a spot that will allow a cast into deep water, even at low tide?

2. Is it better to fish sand rock or mixed ground?

3. Are there any alternatives to Crab when targetting hounds?

4. Has anyone caught these around Skerries???

Any other suggestions? and please dont say head south......

Handy and free casting finger protection,go into your local bike shop and ask for old tubes ,just make sure u get the right size

Hi All,

Can anybody give me directions to Tobberpatrick ?

Thanks

Hi all,
I was wondering....
I like to listen to music and podcasts when fishing, sometimes it's the only chance I get...
To those who do too, what do you like to listen to?
This could make interesting reading.....

hi all can anyone here explain to me the difference between the airmar b60 and the b117 transducers except price and where to pick one up here at a reasionable price compaired to uk or usa cheers

Great to start posting on SAI. Had a dutch group here (in Cork Harbour) for the weekend so will have reports coming for you all in the next day or two!!! :D

Well guys just seen this new multiplier on the market. is there any reviews on it yet????

https://www.veals.co.uk/acatalog/rocket ... -3577.html

cheers fagan :D :D :D

with this heat wave coming (if we get it) would it be a good time to target ray????????

Well with the last of the light line competitions out of the way it was time to collate the results for the overall series. Well done to Martin Perryman of Cobh SAC who was the overall winner. Martin was pushed hard all the way by John Dennehy, captain of the Irish Home Nation's Team and in the end, after 5 competitions, there was nothing between them.

For a full report and results have a look here http://bit.ly/Ld3eZr

I have heard about this about the place and some crazy price to rent it.But have to say i was impressed 8)

could anybody tell me what I have here ? We got maybe 15 of them while jigging for macs.Iv never seen them before and was thinking they might be pilchards .

hello to you all just a question, why do people get depressed when they blank while out fishing,

Kayak(s): 4

Duration:11.30am - 6.30 pm

Tide: Rising

Weather: Cold / warm / windy / calm bit of a mix but stayed dried

Bait: Squid,rag,sand eel,frozen mack

Rigs: All sorts

Results: Thornies,Doggies,Whiting,Dab,Gunard oh ye and a TOPE

Report: It all began very early on Saturday morning got up at 5am had some breakfast, had a chat with the dog and then packed up the rest of the car. On the road and driving for 6.20. One stop along the way made for a 4 hour journey not bad timing. As I got through Londonderry I had a missed call from Graham so I called him back to find there was a change of plans Tullagh was too bad and we were on for TOPE  Graham directed me to the new venue which was a little closer to me so I was there first followed very shortly by Graham and Sean. We parked up and started to get kitted out Sean had everything including the kitchen sink  and Graham was like captain Kirk with a spaceship all rigged up .Nice to finally meet you lads
I remember very clearly asking Graham how far the paddle was and his answer was about 1 mile ! My back side Id say it was easily 2-3  Some lovely scenery along the paddle .We dropped the feathers in the hope of some fresh mackerel for the tope but there wasnt a tap between us.We got to our mark and dropped our line about 50 metres apart from each other. After a short time the rods began knocking. Graham was first on with a lovely Thorn back and then myself only for Sean to follow with two 8)
Very happy with another species for the hunt ! On we went for another while and then Hurler appeared think he forgot to set his alarm .My rod took a heavy knock and the reel started to peel away lovely I thought a Tope but didnt last long as the line went slack.there was a small consilation on the other rod a dab. So sitting there minding by business when knock again the line is peeling from the reel. Could this be my first Tope ? I knocked the ratchet off and put it into gear and the battle commenced  .He came right up to the top of the water he was trashing about and would dive again. Id reel in maybe 10 metres of line and 20 metres would peel back off so I tightened the drag and started to reel to find the reel wasnt engaging WTF Graham came up along side me and we managed to get the Tope onboard . What an adrenaline rush :P A beautiful species
A few photos and we let him back down .Shorly after that I had another thorny slightly bigger than the first
I took to the shore to stretch the legs and got back on the water. I think I had 5 doggies in total one more thorny and two whiting. The lads were kept busy with the thornbacks and doggies but no other tope for the day. Without any doubt the best days fishing ive ever had. Thank you Graham  I look forward to the next time.

Thanks to all the guys who attended yesterdays free Intro Bass Workshop as part of F.A.W. – it was a special day for me and I wish you the best of luck with your Bass fishing in the future.

Ken thanks for the photos and Dan for your able assistance, sorry we were a bit squashed I didn’t realise the numbers.

Hi lads , I am planning to have a go off Trawee beach early next week . Would appreciate advice on the best state of tide and , being really cheeky , best position ( perhaps by pm ) .
I'm hoping for turbot , flounder and coalies if they are still around but would settle for my first sea trout
I plan to go a couple of hundred metres to the West of the car park .
Many thanks

Hey Guys,
Just wondering does it matter what colour snood you use on your trace?

I,ve always stuck with clear mono amnesia/suffix etc or the more plain coloured snoods.Just curious what effect,if any at all would luminous red/yellow have on attracting/deterring the fish!might it spook certain fish if they saw a vivid coloured hooklength.

Are some fish more attracted to brighter colours or does it even matter as the colour will fade in the water anyway, never though about it much but would be glad to know if their or any benifets or drawbacks from using various colours

cheers
ferg

Hi all.

I took this excerpt from a Jim H post:

While our politicians debate Bass fishing in the dail, it might be no harm to take time out and remind them of your Bass angling activity in this country and the special status of the fish – "

Mick.wallace@oireachtas.ie or simon.coveney@oir.ie

So please take a few moments to do so.

Yours faithfully,
John D.

has any1 fished south beach lately??????

is there any rays showing in lough swilly yet?? might plan a wee trip next week

cheers fagan

Lads just wondering can anyone give advice on good weather and tide conditions for sea trout? I bit the bullet and bought the licence a few weeks back but they seem to have vanished since then ( I have that effect on fish!) The mullet seemed to be making an appearance a few weeks back and seem to have dissapeared too. Is it all these easterly winds maybe? The water has been murky true enough but even the odd time when the water is clear there's no sign of them jumping etc and no sign of the mullet either. I should say - I'm fishing the Dublin estuaries
Aiming to catch my first sea trout this year so any help/pms would be much appreciated

hi all,
Just to leave ye know..because of the ban i went out pollock fishing with a light setup that i would use normally for Bass..

had great craic at a deep water rock mark..
no great size to them average about three pounds..
My buddy lost what looked like a really big fish..he said he couldn't hold it...
although hes new enough to this type of fishing..so i left him off with that comment..

had about 5 pollock on various methods..soft plastic shad..one up one down rigged weedless...sinking illex water monitor plug..varoius soft plastics...
i really enjoyed it and although i didn't have any wrasse i'm definately keeping this up for the ban.

I would recommend it to anyone with the sickness...ye know what i'm talking about..

:-( Article here, tragic, and cant beleive one was found on the shores of lough beltra - i fish it for salmon regularly and would have loved to have seen a sea eagle flying wild and free at such an amazing place.

Would love to catch a nice sea bream- I hear that Courtmac can produce giltheads around this time of year is that right?
Has anyone had any luck targeting these? Would be very interested to know what baits/hooks to use.

Info on marks would be very welcome too but maybe I'm asking too much!

PMs welcome too.

Im heading out this weekend with getting my first conger in mind.I was told to use a perk with a pennel rig.Would this be your main line connected to a swivel/snap connected to the top of the perk and a swivel connected to the bottom of the perk and to a long snood of 100lbs with 2 6/0 hooks ?

If this rig is right is it just left on the bottom or is it jigged every now and then ?

latley i fished the light house in youghal and caught a 53cm flounder it was the last cast of the day ,all day i used flapper rigs looking for that one place my last cast i through on a pully rig with a size 2/0 hook and loaded it with lug and half a crab 5 mins in i caught that flounder if any one out there can tell me whats the best place rig out there i know every one has there own ways of catching them and if you can tell me if colour on the snoods work as i had no beeds or anything else on the pully rig thanks.

hello all.a couple of months ago we were bringing the punt out for a spin the engine just came back from a service everything was going fine we came back in and tied up, the engine was ticking over in neutral when all of a sudden there were smoke and flames coming out of the engine ,thankfully we had a small extinguisher and put it out after what seemed like a very long 2 minutes so we took it to the local expert and he has engine going again says it was the carborator packed up and overheated and now says it is as good as ever the engine is a 10 horsepower honda 10 years old and never had trouble off it .my question is would ye trust it after that happened or just look for something else

Just wonderin what is to be targeted on clones on a rising tide in daylight.anyone fished it recently?any input appreciated.

Any info appreciated on these beaches, it's the only spot I can go to when the gf is around because "she can go for a nice walk on it" while I'm fishing

What tides are they best fished on- times of day also?
Species available? I've heard tell of it as a Bass beach but what else can be found down there?

Tactics? Talking baits that work, casting distances, rigs etc?

PMs welcome if you don't feel like divulging trade secrets here!

Thanks folks, tight lines

Looks like 0.2mm 28lb breaking strain is now available.

Sounds too good ?

HELP!!

So I picked up my new boat a month ago and dropped it in for some repair work to the port side.
Picked it up yesterday and its in my driveway. I've a huge list of jobs to do to it!

However it seems the steering has gone a bit wonky. I can turn the wheel fully to starboard (two turns from center) but it only goes partially to port (one turn from center). The teleflex is original (on a 10 year old orkney 590tt) and the engine is a 60hp 2 stroke. When I viewed the boat the steering cable was out (of the tilt tube) but its been left in for the last 2 months (I never saw or tried the steering when the cable was in the tilt tube).

If you look at the picture you can clearly see where the cable is stopping (where the grease stops).
Image

I tried grease and force and a little heat from a hairdryer to move it but it wont budge.
So I tried to remove the cable from the tilt tube, but that wont budge either?

Any idea's would be greatly appreciated... I'll be working on the boat all weekend so don't want to drop it in the dealers to sit idle in the yard until they fix it next week.

Thanks
