Its a 3" Swimmin Pogy made by Berkley. Seemed quite good last year when i used them. But a word of warning they really stink!!

Hi James
Talk to Cortaz but you could try your luck around Brownstown Head outside Tramore, from the Saleens all the way down to the Head itself.
Fitzgerald strand is very shallow except at low water and is wadable.
to the west of Kilfarassy is also a good spot but very rough ground and not a spot you would wade, unless you like losing your ankles!

Hi Keiran,
It was my first time there, and only had an hour to kill, plus there was 2 mack bashers on the main rock, so didnt want to get in their way.
Thanks for the extra info though, and I'll defo give it another go there sometime soon.

| i believe its an unsung law that first come first served should be implied |
I have suffered a similar fate many a time with the swimmers myself, some (not all) have very little regard for the above common decency
The rules/laws/standards/eticate, whatever you wanna call 'em seems to be as I see 'em :
SWIMMERS : swim where ya like when ya like, F**CK any other beach/water users
(the same rule also applies to other water users ie jet ski's/canoe's/kayak's/sailing boats)
ANGLERS : dont fish anywhere were there is water
Just my feelings on the matter for what they are worth

I've just invested in a Mike Ladle Surespin 11ft 2pc fast action, and it's been excellent so far.
I've been able to cast 7g plugs with no problems and it performed very well the other week playing a 4.5lb bass in a strong current.
I was using a a through action 9ft rod last year and there were a few hairy moments when I felt I couldn't control even moderate sized fish properly...

Hi
The bay to the left (howth) side of the split rock is not that great and I'm surprised you got a decent wrasse out of it. There are steps down from up near the houses and it is often used by scuba divers in the summer...
BTW, you will often pick up a coalfish in the crack at high water, and if you leave a bait down there on a conger rod, it always get a run...
At eleven o'clock facing directly north, there is the "seal" rock and just in front and not more than 15 metres out there is a very deep hole. At around 2 o'clock there is a reef at close to 80-100 metres out - if you can land your baits on the seaward side of this you will pick up very good pollack but it is a tough cast and bite detection in the currents is tough.
Hope this helps in addition to what is listed above ...

Subject: Kilmore Quay Boat Fishing
Posted: Sat Jul 05, 2008 12:01 pm (GMT 1)
Hi,
I've booked a weeks holiday in Kilmore Quay from the 19th July.
Trying to get out on a days charter fishing, its fairly short notice as I only booked it yesterday so I've e-mailed a load of charters to see if they can fit me in.
Fingers crossed I'll get a place. I've been trawling through the archives & there is a huge amount of useful info there.
Just wondering if anybody has any advice re: fishing in Kilmore generally?
Could you advise what tackle to bring?
Is bait/tackle readily available once I get there?
Any boats to avoid (PM please)
Any info greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Patrick.

the white ones are good in bright conditions, the black ones are the best overall, one of the marks we fish we can get a fish a cast with plenty around 6/7/8/lb., the second last time we were out we had well over 100= 4/500lbs., we had and tryed lots of other lures/rubbers/ect. most caught a few but were noway near as good as the redgill.

Hi,
I've booked a weeks holiday in Kilmore Quay from the 19th July.
Trying to get out on a days charter fishing (post in boat forum) but I'm also bringing the shore/plugging gear.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice/marks/tips to share for some shore fishing around Kilmore?
There seems to be a fair bit in the archives regarding the boat fishing available but not much on the shore side of things.
I'm not fussy re: species once I'm catching. Though it being Wexford I'd love to get some spinning for bass in.
I'll probably be up at dawn to get some fishing in each morning before the family wakes.
Any info greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Patrick.

steo,
I was digging bait in sutton yesterday evening, so thought I would try split rock for an hour after I had finished.
I have not fished there before myself, but float fished into the small bay to the left of the split rock. Was only there around an hour and got one wrasse to around 2-2 1/2 lb taken on rag.
The conditions were not great, there was a very stiff breeze creating quite a swell. I fished from 7pm to 8pm and low water was 6.50, and the small bay was quite shallow then, it could have done with more fill from the tide I think.
I fished close into my feet, but it was difficult as strangely enough with the tide coming in, the water on the surface was dragging the float out to sea
This meant the bait wasnt close to the rocks for very long on each cast.
I would say the place could fish really well nearer high water, and with less wind. It certainly looks great ground for wrasse, and should hold some pollock aswell.
Hope this helps.
I'll be posting my report/pic in the shore reports section later this morning if yo want to keep an eye out for it.
BTW I know some better wrasse marks south-side if you want to travel a little further.
Mark
