October 18, 2008 Fishing Report
We have been having unbelievable fishing. Fall fishing at its best. Good sized Cod and Pollock and numerous Haddock. Our Fall Overnight Fishing trip came back yesterday with loaded coolers of Haddock, many of our customers caught 20 Haddock or so each. These trips have been going beyond the reach of our day trips, and have been a huge success. The great weather, active fishing, good camaraderie, all combines for a great day at sea. We are going everyday 7 am to 4 pm thru end of October. Starting in November, we will be going 7 am to 4 pm Thursdays to Sunday. Top pool winners: Dave Forcinito, Boston MA, with a 25 lb Hake, using Bait on 10/8 Mario Jesus, Deerfield MA, 12 lb Cod on Bait, 10/10 Carlo Colonnello, Stanford CT, 18 lb Hake, Bait, 10/11 Lorretta Miner, Faresburg VT, 31 lb Cod, Jig, 10/12 Kevin Tyler, Hudson MA, 15 lb Cod, Bait 10/14 Dave Davis, Peabody MA, 15 lb Cod, Jig, on 10/15 Other pool winners: Joe Levasseur, Taunton MA Kelly Seria, Chicopee MA Curt Burke, No Conway NH We leave Thursday evenings for our Fall Overnight Specials. Whale cod caught on Half Day Trip June 29, 2008!
64 1/4 pounds of mammoth Cod! Jen Phelan from Ayer MA, hauled in this great prize on our Half Day Fishing trip! We have had some great fishing this season, and luckily, have not had to travel to the end of the world to get to where we can catch fish. This has been great news for our half day fishing trips. We have had some great trips this year. Mostly, we have been catching Haddock, but on Sunday, Cod fishing was the prize! These Half day Fishing trips are great for those that may want to take their family fishing, but a full day may be much for the younger ones. These are great fun, especially when there is hope to catch some fish. If you have thought of taking the family fishing, this is a great time! |

We were proud to host Chikage Windler, and her camera crew from Channel 7 News, aboard the Yankee Spirit and tremendously excited to help her catch her first fish. She learned quickly and ended up catching a good sized haddock. We loved how she has captured what Yankee Fleet and deep sea fishing is all about - having fun with with everyone on the boat, catching fish, and bringing home enough fish for a fish fry with the neighborhood. What shall we expect on our Deep Sea Fishing trip
While all trips are different, generally, we will spend an hour or so steaming out to where the captain believes will be a good opportunity. We'll spend some time there, and then make a few shifts to other areas. Take advantage of the shift, while steaming grab a snack from the galley. You don't want to miss out on the fishing time. Before you know it, it's time to head home. You can bring the catch to the mates at the stern, who'll filet the fish for a nominal price. The mates work hard for you to make sure you have a great time. |
